Mark J. Boda is professor of Old Testament at McMaster Divinity College and professor in the Faculty of Theology at McMaster University, Hamilton, Ontario. His other books include the NIV Application Commentary volume on Haggai and Zechariah.
This commentary is comprehensive in its treatment of the Book of Zechariah and is intended for the serious student. The notes on his translation are detailed and intended for an audience with some familiarity with biblical Hebrew. The author interacts with a great deal of contemporary as well as historical scholarship, and presents the representative options for interpretation before articulating his own thoughts. He presents an extensive exploration of the words and concepts used in the text with their other occurrences in the Old Testament, with a view to demonstrating possible instances of intertextuality and inner biblical interpretation. His attention to the detail of the prophetic literary forms is most informative. This is a very useful commentary for pastors, students and scholars alike.
