Fighting Anxiety with Good News During the Coronavirus Pandemic
In these uncertain times due to COVID-19, it can be easy to let anxiety, stress, worry, and fear consume us and flood our minds. Watching the news and hearing statistics and news stories about the virus can increase the level of anxiety and fear we feel during this time. However, as Christians, we should remind ourselves of the hope we have in God and that we can focus on Him when anxiety and fear starts to overwhelm us. God can comfort us when we are feeling anxious, and He can give us hope and joy in return. Psalm 94:19 is a passage that reassures us of this truth: “When anxiety was great within me, your consolation brought joy to my soul”. We can go to Him in prayer whenever we are feeling anxious, worried, or afraid, and be confident that He will give us peace about the situation and comfort us with His overflowing love for us. God is our hope and He is good (Psalm 100:5). When it seems like joy is lost, especially amidst this ongoing pandemic, we need to remember the goodness of God and that we can always rejoice and find hope in Him (Psalm 71:14; Romans 15:13).
Also, even though, in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, we are being saturated with bad news, there is still some good and uplifting news taking place around the world. Despite everything that is going on, people are still displaying acts of kindness, love, and positivity to others. It is amazing to witness these stories, which is why we have decided to highlight some of them below!
In Alabama, members of the public parked their cars in the hospital parking lots and flashed their lights and prayed for the nurses, doctors, and hospital staff working on the front lines to help fight against COVID-19. Not only is this happening in Alabama, but there are many other examples of similar events happening around the world where people are showing their solidarity and thanks to those working on the frontlines during this pandemic.
While in quarantine, some Italian neighbours decided to sing some songs together from their balconies to boost the morale among their community. It is a heart-warming video to watch as the Italian community is still holding strong despite this difficult time.
Two sisters have created a volunteer-based delivery service to help seniors get the supplies they need during the COVID-19 pandemic without them having to go to the grocery store themselves. Many communities around the world have also adopted similar volunteer-based delivery initiatives to help out seniors and people who cannot go grocery shopping due to their health. There are so many more good news stories happening around the world as communities come together to support each other and the workers on the frontlines. By continuing to witness these amazing acts of kindness, love, and support as well as focusing on the hope and joy found in Jesus, we can overcome the negativity and anxiety that we are currently feeling while facing this pandemic.
